Kaprun, together with Zell am See, make up the entire 'Europa Sport' ski region, with 130km of pistes, 50 of which are in Kaprun itself. Kaprun is a year-round resort, with skiing available on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier almost 10 months of the year and lots of summer pursuits (golf, climbing, water sports) during the summer months.
Unlike the bigger Zell am See, Kaprun is a traditional Austrian village, with a decent selection of restaurants and accommodation. It has quieter nightlife, but it's still pretty fun and varied.
Its skiing is mainly for beginners and intermediates as well as cross-country, while experts don't receive extensive attention. You'll have the slight inconvenience of a bus ride to get to Zell am See if you want to ski there but the ski bus and ski lifts are included in one ski pass covering both areas.
Kaprun is situated directly at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, only 10 kilometers from the Zell am See ski resort. Kaprun is one of the resorts of the European Sport Region. Once you arrive to the village of Kaprun, you will find the location very Austrian. Typical Austrian atmosphere can be felt on every step - the architecture, hotel, house and restaurants interiors. Kaprun is surely a peaceful travel destination providing real Austrian atmosphere, good ski facilities and various types of accommodation. The resort offers a lot of activities both in summer and winter period. The glacier ski area directly next to the resort make Kaprun ski-able 365 days throughout the year and the network of ski pistes is very extensive. And when the summer comes and the snow melts on lower altitudes, multiple hiking trails and other mountain activities become available.
